With our recent transition to a larger office space we are looking to expand our programs and services offered by the CPC. To do this we require additional volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering please stop by our office to pick up an application.
The volunteers are individuals from all over Metro Vancouver who are interested in making a difference in the community. Our volunteers are from all walks of life and all have an interest in community involvement. Whether you are a student or retired we have a program that will suit you interests. Applicants to the police department find volunteering with us to be a great asset to their future career choice. If you have a few spare hours a month and are interested in getting involved to make a difference then we want to hear from you! Visit our "Programs" page for more information on the exciting opportunities that we can offer you!
Typical office duties of a volunteer are: answering phone calls, take reports from victims, reportees and tourists, refer public inquiries to the appropriate agency, maintain crime statistics, and participate in community events. Our volunteers also participate in Foot and Bike Patrols throughout the community and assist with traffic and crowd control for parades, street closures, and the annual Celebration of Lights Fireworks Festival.
You must meet the following criteria to be a volunteer:
Our volunteers are given respect and recognition within the community. It's a great experience for anyone looking at a future career in law enforcement or in emergency services. Being a volunteer in the Downtown core of Vancouver, our volunteers are introduced to all sorts of scenarios while patrolling our streets. Along with being a volunteer you are able to go on ride-a-longs with police constables for a shift and experience first hand situations. If going on patrol isn't your area of interest, we have many office positions available. The office is an important part of our organization. Throughout the year we host events for our volunteers, such as dinners, awards, and boat cruises. We want you and in return we want you to be happy with the service you are providing to the West End and Coal Harbour communities!
If you are interested in volunteering with us you need to stop by our office and pick up a volunteer application package. Fill out the required information and drop off the completed forms to our volunteer coordinator. All applications are subject to a Police criminal record and security clearance. We also complete 2 reference checks for all volunteer applications. The application process to become a volunteer usually takes between 2 to 4 weeks.
